During my career as an English Language Teacher (over ten years of EFL teaching experience, primarily in the Middle East) I have developed a particular interest in corpus linguistics and what is often loosely referred to as the Lexical Approach. This interest had a direct impact on my MA dissertation in Translation (I graduated Sept 2005 from the University of Surrey), where I chose to do a corpus-based study on conceptual metaphors in translation. After completing my MA, my fascination with the Lexical Approach and corpus linguistics has grown and I want to explore further how they can be applied both to the EFL class room and to translation - two distinct linguistic activities that both deal with the cross-over between two languages.
